There are several programs that can be used to transfer
web page/s to the CornerNet server. PC users can download WS-FTP or CuteFTP for the PC and Mac users can
download Fetch.
You can adapt the information below for whatever program you elect to use to transfer your
web pages from your PC to our server.
Using WS-FTP
to Transfer Your Files to Your Web Server Account
File Transport Protocol (FTP)
software is used to transfer files between your computer and your CornerNet
directory. There are two parts to WS-FTP. The Session Profile Window establishes the
connection to the CornerNet Web server. The WS-FTP Window enables you to manage files and
directories, as well as transfer your files.
Session Profile Window:
Connecting:
To open WS-FTP, double click on the WS-FTP icon. The Session Profile Window will appear.
1. Name your Profile, "CornerNet".
2. In the Host Name field, type
"ftp.cornernet.com"
3. Enter your account name.
4. Enter your password.
5. Click the box next to "save password", so there is a checkmark in the box.
(You may select to enter it each time if you choose.)
6. Save the entry by clicking on
"Save".
7. To start the connection, click OK
WS-FTP Window:
File and Directory Functions:
WS-FTP allows you to act on the files and directories of both the local (your computer,
left side of the screen) and remote computer (CornerNet Web server, right side of the
screen). Use the functions described below to add, modify and delete your files and
directories.
1.Highlight a directory listed on the upper half of the program window by clicking on the
directory.
2.Perform the directory actions you want by clicking on one of the listed buttons:
Button : Action
ChgDir : Changes the current directory to the highlighted
directory. Updates the file listing for the directory. MkDir :
Creates a directory in the current directory. You will be asked to name it. Enter the name
of the directory you wish to create. RmDir : Deletes the
highlighted directory. The directory must be empty for you to be able to delete it.
To change the directory to the previous directory, select .. and click [ChgDir].
3.Perform the file actions you want
by clicking on one of the listed buttons:
Button : Action
View : Displays the contents of a highlighted text file. Exec
: Executes the highlighted file. If the file is on the remote computer, it
will first transfer the file to your computer, then execute it on your computer. Rename
: Renames the highlighted file. Delete :
Deletes the highlighted file. Refresh : Updates the
directory information. DirInfo : Displays the directory
contents using the computers operating systems dir command.
Selecting the Transfer Type:
Files to be transferred are either text-only or binary. HTML files are text-only, while
.gif and .jpg files are binary. WS-FTP gives you three choices for transferring files:
ASCII, Binary and Auto. ASCII files can be sent as binary files, but not vice-versa.
If you are having trouble with a file that was transferred using ASCII, transfer it using
binary or auto. Set your file type by selecting the appropriate radio button.
File Transferring:
To work with a specific file:
1.Highlight the file you want to transfer by clicking on the filename
2.Perform the transfer by clicking on the appropriate button below:
Button : Action
<-- : Transfers the selected files from the CornerNet Web
server to your computer.
--> : Transfers the selected files from your computer to the
CornerNet Web server.
3.To select more than one file to transfer at a time, click on the first file, then press
[Shift] and click on the last file you want to transfer. All the files between the two
will also be highlighted. To select non-contiguous files, hold down the [Ctrl] key
while clicking on individual files.
4.Watch the status bar at the bottom
of the screen to see the status of the file transfer.
5. Your web directory on CornerNet's
web server is named "WWW". When you log on, you will automatically go to
your home directory. Double click on WWW and transfer your files to this
location. The main or first file of your web page/s MUST be named index.html.
6. Your web page is accessible by
the url: "http://www.cornernet.com/~accountname"
Make sure this is how you tell people or advertise the location of your web page.
Disconnecting:
When you are using WS-FTP, it is important to leave the remote computer gracefully.
1.To close your connection, click on CLOSE
2.To quit WS-FTP, click on EXIT
