Frequently Asked Questions and Internet Help
Will
CornerNet tell me about new viruses as they are announced?
There are
too many good sites that identify viruses already. CornerNet will not be directly
notifying you of virus alerts. We do NOT filter email at *ALL* for virii,
although we do prevent the delivery of some known harmful file types. (That INCLUDES filtering
for potentially harmful viruses.) You may want to routinely check the following
sites for new viruses, for antivirus updates etc. There are MANY good antivirus programs
out there. Pick one, keep it updated and use it routinely.
Microsoft will
NEVER send you fixes as email attachments. Don't fall for these
gimmicks! w32/swen@mm makes email look
like it is a Microsoft Patch. Use your update function or go directly to
Microsoft for your updates.
CornerNet will
NEVER send you attachments. Don't fall for these emails either, even if
they say they are from us. Always call before following any direction in
an email you aren't sure is from us.
Don't click links
for paypal, ebay, mcafee, norton or other companies that send you email
and tell you you need to update your name, credit card, other info. Go
directly to their sites to do updates, instead of clicking a link within
the email.

What are hijack programs,
spyware, adware and parasites, and how can I protect my browser from
being hijacked?
I ran accross this site and it has excellent
information:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/hijacked/prevent.php
In addition, you can go to your favorite search engine
and type in something like, "spyware" or "adware" or "parasites" or
hijack programs" and find out about these pesky varmints.. They can and
do cause every bit as much damage as virii.
How do I get
my email if I am away from home?
The
easiest way is to use web mail. Click the link from our main web page or
go to:
https://webmail.cornernet.com. You can get your mail from anywhere
using web mail. Or, you can telnet to the CornerNet main
server and use Pine. In Windows 95/95, you click on start/run and type in "telnet
main.cornernet.com", without the quotation marks, and press enter. Then log in as you
by typing in your user name and password. Type the word "Pine" to open a text
email program named Pine. You can also use this method when you have an email that is too
large to be received into your graphical email program.
What should
I do if it takes longer than I'm willing to wait to get an email downloaded? I think there
may be something wrong with the message.

How do I
find out how much time I've used?
Connect to CornerNet. Go to
your browser and type in the address of our web page:
http://www.cornernet.com
In the left hand column,
click on the Accounts option. Pick the first choice to check how much time you have used.
Enter your user name and password and then you will see how many hours you have used this
month. The time usage is updated daily at 10:00 A.M.
